Do you have old phones, GPS devices or digital cameras lying around unused?
Dodo’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs-funded Tesito project supports forest conservation in The Gambia, Senegal and Guinea-Bissau. Its partner, the Gambian Ministry of Environment, is in need of equipment for its field work.
In particular, working GPS devices, smartphones and digital cameras are needed. In addition, backpacks and rucksacks are useful for local authorities in the field.

Last month, the Kafuta Forest School held a forest monitoring field training in Kiang West National Park as part of the Tesito project. 🌳
Ten final-year forestry students took part, learning how to use satellite data to detect fires and understand their impact on forest cover. 📡
The training was led by Principal Momodou Lamin Njai, who shared skills he had gained during Tesito field trips throughout the years. 📍
Students explored real fire data from the region and studied small fires in the area around the Dumbuto community, within the buffer zone of Kiang West National Park. 📊
The practical exercises helped them connect satellite information with real-world forest management and understand how careful monitoring can support forest protection. 🌍
By the end of the day, students felt more confident using the tools and better equipped to contribute to forest conservation. 🔨

Viime kuussa Kafutan metsäkoulu järjesti kenttäkoulutuksen Kiang Westin kansallispuistossa osana Tesito-hanketta. 🌳
Kymmenen viimeisen vuoden opiskelijaa pääsi seuraamaan, miten satelliittidataa voidaan käyttää metsäpalojen havaitsemiseen ja niiden vaikutusten ymmärtämiseen metsäkannalle.📡
Koulutusta johti rehtori Momodou Lamin Njai, joka jakoi opiskelijoille Tesiton kenttäretkillä vuosien varrella oppimiaan taitoja.📍

Next Monday, the 1st of December it’s time to gather for the LAST session of Radical rest and collective agency. We will form the Utopia study circle evening together, according to the participants' needs.
Gathering at @sweetspot.community a place that provides space to participate in nonverbal or verbal being, resting and creating. In this session you are invited to join a practice about what kind of characters will continue living on the outside of this utopistic space.
There will be food, soft surfaces, facilitated slow space and candle light.

The study circle is for 16–29-year-olds who are interested in social activism and want to be part of a temporary community.

This will be the very last activity of the Towards Action project – if you have wanted to join the project but have not managed to do so yet, this is your chance! The whole project has been running for two years during which we have gathered together around many different topics related to hope, activism, art, agency and community. This will be the last gathering.

For the third year, Madagascar-based NGO Manondroala has worked with Dodo to strengthen mapping skills for forestry professionals in Gambia, Senegal, and Guinea-Bissau. 🌍
Manondroala GIS experts, Angela Tarimy and Daulphin Razafipahatelo, have had a long-standing collaboration with the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation. Building on the skills they developed in previous projects, they now lead online GIS training in the Tesito project, creating materials and guiding participants over several weeks. 📆
This year, participants learned to track forest cover changes, analyze satellite data, and create maps for planning, reporting, and conservation. 🌳
The sessions were fully online,in two languages (French and English) interactive, and adapted to each country’s experience, and relied entirely on free software and open satellite data, making the methods easy to replicate without any commercial tools. 💻
Through this program, methods developed in Madagascar are now shared across West Africa, supporting forest monitoring and conservation efforts. 🌱

Koulutukset toteutettiin täysin verkossa, kahdella eri kielellä (ranska ja englanti), interaktiivisesti ja sovitettuina kunkin maan kokemustasoon, ja ne perustuivat täysin avoimiin ohjelmistoihin ja satelliittiaineistoihin, joten menetelmät ovat helposti toistettavissa ilman kaupallisia työkaluja. 💻

We came together for the last Action Weekend in Helsinki 2025 organised by @dodo_org and stayed at the lovely @rauhanasema /Peace station. Thanks to the enriching workshops, we were able to take a shared journey into our utopia.🌸
We dived into out imaginations, playfully stimulated our utopian thinking and strengthend our connections and agency. 🐝
Turning trash into treasure by reshaping what was discarded, we reminded ourselves that fighting for a sustainable future is also a fight for creativity, solidarity and change.🦝
We reflected on our past, our roles in our communities and created our shared story. To get a glimpse of the cityscape as we imagine it, we built windows that we decorated with materials, colours and dreams.🌈
