Call for Work try-out positions at Turntable: Feb/Mar-May/June, May-Aug, Sept-Dec 2024 (4 months, 20h/week)
Dodo is looking for two people from Helsinki for a four-month work trial at the urban agriculture center Turntable in Pasila. In the February/March-May/June period, seedling cultivation will begin, spring events will be organized and Turntable will be renovated. In the May-August period, the seedlings are planted out in the greenhouse and seeds are sown outside, and spring and summer events are organized. In the September-December period, crops are tended, harvest is collected and autumn events are organized.
The applicant is expected to be handy, interested in Dodo’s activities and developing them and willing to learn about urban farming. Studies and work in event production, construction and landscaping are considered an advantage. You are interested in plants, and environmental issues are close to your heart. You are not afraid of small repair tasks, administrative tasks or working with new people or ideas. The working languages are Finnish and/or English. Self-initiative and responsibility a plus.

Work tasks:
- Urban gardening and repairing the garden structures (gardening, landscaping or equivalent training will be considered an advantage as well as building)
- Coordinating the Turntable community garden, working with volunteers
- Participating in the Turntable event planning and organizing
Objectives:
- Developing work-life skills and learning on the job
- Learning about Dodo’s operations and Turntable’s urban farming
- Learning about event production together in event production teams
- Strengthening environmental awareness by learning about the connections between growing food and food systems
- Learning about the daily tasks of an environmental organization and how even small actions affect the world
